A porn-tastic hookup site for open-minded people. Enter Zoosk , an online dating site and mobile app that promises ease of use and practicality in the singles world. Instead of filling out long and tedious questionnaires about yourself and your ideal match, it simply takes the online profiles for the social media accounts you've already created and seamlessly integrates your information into your account. Who knows you better than Google and Facebook when it comes to your life online?
In fact, Zoosk started out as one of the first Facebook apps when the social media platform began to open up to more users back in December The dating service has made it really easy to start a profile, meet other users, and cast a wide net for potential matches. The company brags about its more than 35 million members across upwards of 80 countries around the world. But single people of various ages from 20 to 93 are using the app everyday. Lifestyles, on the other hand, seem to be exclusively single, while there are no options for open, polyamorous, or non-monogamous relationships.
But Zoosk seems like they might be courting this demographic for the future. Zoosk uses a proprietary "Behavioral Matchmaking" engine and algorithm that delivers users better matches through their actions. But, while Zoosk can promise ease of use and millions to match, the reality is that when using a dating app, matching can really depend on the user. Creating a profile is pretty easy, especially if you have a Google or Facebook account already.
Simply sign in to one of those existing internet accounts and the service will prompt you to answer a few basic questions about your gender and partner preference, birthday, and zip code. This is followed up with your height, your religion, and whether or not you are a smoker of cigarettes, I presume. Your profile picture is then uploaded from your Google or Facebook account. Creating a profile is really easy and only takes about a minute or so, especially when you compare it to sites like EliteSingles, which has a pretty robust sign up process. You can refine your profile later with more photos, a short bio or "story," details about your perfect match and ideal date.
The dating site pools your interests and likes from Facebook and populates them throughout your profile. The dating site also has something called a "Boost" feature, which puts your profile front and center for all users in your area. This is a way to get more views and hopefully more matches. However, boosts are not free. Each one costs Zoosk Coins, which I will describe later in this review under the "Is Zoosk worth its membership price? Feel free to skip ahead now if you'd like. In addition, the dating platform has a "Carousel" feature that gives you a rapid-fire look at profiles in a Tinder-like manner.
You just aimlessly like and dislike until you run out of users. The algorithm will learn everything about you and your likes and dislikes as you use the app. Luckily, there is a profile verification system that helps real users, who are indicated with a green check mark, to weed out the not-so-genuine ones. Profile verification is just as easy as setting up an actual profile.
It will prompt you with three ways to verify your account, by photo, phone number, or Twitter account. If you select photo verification, the app will give you a few instructions.
Your photo is then sent to administrators for verification. This process took a few hours to complete, instead of a few seconds with a phone number it sends you a special PIN via text message and Twitter verification. Zoosk does the work to ensure that your "video" photo lines up with the one on your profile.
Although it takes some time, you can now rest easy knowing your matches are real or at least verified when you see that green check mark on their photo. Despite all this, I still encountered a number of questionable profiles throughout Zoosk.
Questions & Answers
And in that way, the online dating service is really easy to spam people with shady and phony users who advertise for free sex if you follow a link to another website or dating app. The green check verification does come in handy in those situations, but it can be tough to scroll through all the accounts to seek them out. Within one minute of creating a new profile, I was messaged eight times from people who seemed not to be real.
Most of them simply viewed my new profile, but some wanted to meet or sent a generic message to elicit a response. You may run into another problem with seemingly inactive users. Out of the 11 messages and notifications I received during my review period, it was difficult to tell which ones were genuine and which ones were not. There are still a number of real people on Zoosk who are excited to match with you. The design of the website and app are pretty modern, as they both emphasize engagement and interaction. In fact, the first thing you do after you create an account is start "liking" people, so the algorithm can get a feel of your preferences.
You can either like someone with a smiley face, which indicates friendship, or you can like someone with a heart, which indicates love. Zoosk lets you cast as wide or as small of a net as you please, with preferences that you can broaden or refine. You have the chance to match with people depending on their location between three miles to , while the default setting is "auto-selected. You can also go a bit deeper with settings for height, religion, relationship history, body type, children, ethnicity, education, and smoking preferences all in the mix to tweak or leave alone.
It seems no matter what your type, the platform has someone in mind for you. With a basic account, you can only browse and like other users. While other sites like OkCupid , Tinder, and Bumble have a robust free option that allows you to read, send, and receive messages, Zoosk does not. But there are some benefits to becoming a member. You also know that if you receive a legit message from a real user, then you can also send a reply back to them.
Zoosk Review - AskMen
The messaging system is quite impressive. With Zoosk, it's all about the messaging. Of course, there are a number of alternatives out there. With a lower tier premium account you can only send and receive so many messages until you have to pony up more money. Why not be honest and say your not interested? I can literally write so much about these dating websites. I have used other online dating sites such as Match. They both provide good customer service in my opinion. Then I heard about Zoosk via email.
What an absolutely horrible experience from an organizational and customer service perspective. It's generous even giving Zoosk one star out of five. They are a nightmare to deal with. I purchased a 6-month subscription around mid Along with the email, and just after my subscription expired, I also received notifications that people on Zoosk had sent me messages. So I bit and renewed again. Only to discover that I was charged the full amount for 6-months and the messages from these so called "people" appeared computer-generated? So I attempted to contact Zoosk on both the non-discounted price and the assumingly fake profiles out there.
They informed me that I needed to pay by credit card which I did via PayPal and gave no answer to the seemingly "computer-generated" email messages received from potentially fake profiles. About a week later, Zoosk emails me informing me that my subscription was cancelled, yet I paid for 6-months? So I called them. Zero help and wouldn't even allow me to speak to a supervisor. Exact words from the customer service agent were: Your account has been blocked as it is our company policy to close an account when a dispute is raised via a 3rd party.
To which the agent responded, "Sir, you have every right to attempt to re-join, but there is no guarantee that our system will not pick it up and block you. Why they chose to skate around the "real truth" and force me to gain mediation via PayPal is mind-boggling? Save you money folks and happy searching. Allowed me to find who i want to be with and that i dont have to feel lonely or unlucky. However i wish the payment plans were cheaper and that i wouldnt have to necessarily subscribe to be able to use it. Awesome if you be yourself.. I am excited to say that I have met a great man.
A new best friend. I am so happy I decided to give this a try. Who knows what can happen if you only let it. Zoosk is easy to use and easy to meet peole. There is a abundance of eligible and educated men on this site.
I meet someone that we have things in common with and will see where it go from their. Im hoping everything works out between us. Not sure why but Zoosk allowed me to meet more individuals and communicate freely with them for a resonable price. I am happy with my experience and agree with other reviews that Zoosk is a great online dating site. I recently met a potential partner!
Upon subscription the registration form pops back to the 6 month subscription plan when you make an error it is very easy to get 'more than you wanted' and it does not mather if you mail support about this I'm really happy with zoosk, it's not fake people who is suscribed, I can recommend this site and I feel really happy thank you. Only had one stalker thank God , most of my matches were miles away but was lucky to meet someone close to me and met for coffee and ended up talking for two hrs in the park.
We have been going out for over a year now and happy to have met each other. I must say thought that out in public we would of both never had met each other because we are both workaholics, I do have to say thanks to zoosk we met each other,. What time is your flight number?
I have been thinking of bringing? So much for all of your help I really appreciate you sticking to my license is expired I thought I was thinking negative. Most of the profiles are fake. After 26 days, I deleted all of the information and pictures on my profile and canceled but my subscription still had 4 more days.
Each of those four days, I had numerous messages from women wanting to talk with me and each message then had an overlay telling me that it wasn't too late to change my mind about cancelling. In fact I only used the coins when I could get them for free. Under the system that's no longer possible. Nobody takes that sort of thing seriously, and for a woman it's even less relevant. They aren't really viewing your profile Zoosk populates your Views with people to make you think you are popular, so you will frequent the site.
Zoosk is deceptive and playing games with your emotions! Most of the profiles in Zoosk aren't even current, so what you are seeing are basically phantom profiles. For instance, once you decide not to renew your profile, they keep your profile up anway [instead of taking it down] and they use it sending out mechanical greetings attached to your profile to unsuspecting members. In other words, don't be expecting anyone to even write back. Chances are you will be communicating with an old profile that has expired a long time ago. Chances are you're sending a message to someone that was a member long ago and isn't registered any longer.
Zoosk is a total scam. I believe it is. But how safe is the internet these days. Just don't be quick to give too much information too soon you will know when its right to share. Just a damm good money making machine imho who the hell os going to go miles plus for a date and the majority of profiles are expired but kept on to look like they are active save your money mate.
When I got to the end they wanted to charge another fee, I think for processing or something. Later I got an e-mail telling me that the fee was dropped. I did meet one man, he was nice, but wasn't for me. I am a paid member and I keep getting the same thing.

I don't get it either. It is usually after I message them and have have view my profile. I get a message at the lower left portion of my screen and click on it, and it takes to where you do the messaging, but there is NO WAY to accept the messaging. And I never get a message from that person!
The Zoosk message that initially pops up saying that " " wants to chat with you just goes away and you are left wondering what the HELL just happened. I know your problem. Write a Review Ask a Question Share. Helpful answer 4 Votes Thanks for voting!
