Welcome to 40 days of dating

Definitely the kind of book that makes my shelves prettier. If you're wondering whether you should buy it after already reading the b I absolutely loved the blog and I remember devouring it daily, along with my feeling and interpretations at the time. If you're wondering whether you should buy it after already reading the blog, I would definitely recommend it; if not for the creativity, for sure for the end part about how they dealt with this project after its completion.

Jan 04, Angelina rated it really liked it Shelves: A very cool, visually appealing book that tells the pre- and post-experiment details not found on the blog. I really enjoyed this book and all the insight about relationships, love, and perception that was examined throughout the pages. My only real negative feeling about this book has to do with the way it was printed.

This w A very cool, visually appealing book that tells the pre- and post-experiment details not found on the blog. This wasn't an every page thing, but it did bug me when it occurred because I felt like I was missing something. May 04, Amy Kattan rated it liked it Shelves: This was a mostly enjoyable and quick read, but I can definitely see it working better as a blog. I never read the blog, but I found that while I was interested in the experiment, the day to day minutiae bothered me as I was binge-reading the book.

Also, the design of the book was really cool, but also really impractical - It was difficult to read. Will suggest, if you plan to read this book buy it in print it is definitely a coffee table book. I was really excited to see what happened at the end. I'm a big fan of the blog and the works of Jessica Walsh and Tim Goodman so it wasn't much of stretch that I would love this book. May 14, Pulga Haza rated it it was amazing. This was an addictive read, you can read the main bits on the blog however it is a beautiful book! Just because of that and all the extra bits is worth it all the way: I am a sucker for a good RomCom.

This pretty much hits that spot in a very nonfiction way. As a story, it has all the moments one wants: I found myself reflecting on my own relationships and how I've occupied the spaces of boyfriend and lover, as well as friend. The design work is pretty phenomenal, which, unfortunately, is where this book falls short.

It cuts into a lot of the deign work when turning to the next page, which is frustrating when I am a sucker for a good RomCom. It cuts into a lot of the deign work when turning to the next page, which is frustrating when the writing and art communicate with one another. I wish the editors had planned the page breaks better. This book feels much like a supplement to the website. The Website shows more graphic works and motion graphics that aren't shown or can't be shown in the book.

I found myself reading from the book while being on the website to experience the full impact of the art work. All in all, it's a great book to read and find more insight to the before and after of the project. As well, to relate to the ups and downs of love.

I don't care about t Honestly, the two star is a bit generous for having read this on the Kindle but I did really enjoy the project when they put it out in I don't care about tweet-length stories about what love is or your first date from completely random sources with no description of who they are or why I would care in relation to the story.

I enjoyed the "what happened after" but then that also abruptly stopped so there was no following the journey. Jun 23, Cindy Pham rated it really liked it. I had a lot more criticisms about the concept when I was younger - that it was self-absorbed, that it was obviously a publicity stunt - but now that I'm a designer around their age, I have a lot more empathy for what they went through and the emotional turmoil that comes with opening yourself up to vulnerability, honesty, and publicity.

For this reason, I was surprised to find myself much more engaged with the content and story, and I was much more interested in what happened to the two of them after the experiment when they were free from arbitrary rules and structure. Unfortunately, the design and structure of the book layout was not up to par, requiring several page flips back and forth to get the chronology right. It did not do justice to the designs as it should have. Jun 21, Kayla Burress rated it liked it. For being designers, you'd think they'd be more mindful of making an accessible format.

Then again, maybe that's the issue; they focused much too hard on design rather than functionality.

Completely changed some thoughts on love, dating, and uncertainty. Really made me think. May 03, books. I remember staying up late one night to read the journal entries on the website. Despite the obsession to read everything I could find about the experiment that night, it somehow slipped my mind until I stumbled upon a post or was it an article online saying that the duo were publis SOME SPOILERS AHEAD although it may not be considered spoilers given what's been available on the internet after the book's release I had read about the experiment when a friend posted a link about it on Facebook.

Despite the obsession to read everything I could find about the experiment that night, it somehow slipped my mind until I stumbled upon a post or was it an article online saying that the duo were publishing a book about their journey. I knew I wanted for sure that I wanted to read the book. After a few weeks of exploring options to purchase it, I finally bought one copy from Amazon. It took me a few weeks after getting the book to read it.

Once I started reading, I couldn't stop. I also had a hard time resisting flipping to the back because I was so curious about the ending! In the end I just had to know the ending before going through all 40 days worth of journal entries. That sort of affected the way I read the second half of the journal entries, so for those of you who haven't read the book, please try to resist the temptation to flip to the back!

The ending was a bit unexpected and I wish Jessica shared more about her experience with Zak, like how exactly they met, the dates they had, and how she was feeling considering that she met Zak within a very short time from the end of the experiment Book 2 perhaps??? The illustrations in the book are great and make the book even more entertaining and colourful. Unfortunately some of the illustrations got cut off because of the formatting of the book. While the day journal entries benefit from being put side by side, the post-experiment entries were a bit hard to read because Jessica and Tim's entries ended on different pages and the dates were not synchronised.

For the most part of the day journal entries, I read from the left to the right Jessica's entry, then Tim's entry , and only towards the end did I realise that it was more interesting to mix the order up once in a while so Tim's entry first, then Jessica's. Funny how Tim and Jessica could perceive a date or event differently. I really enjoyed reading the book and could see myself flipping through it again in future.

But even more so, I hope this would strike a chord with the man who broke my heart. We're both on both sides. Also, the layout of this book is so genius I can't even describe it. It perfectly matches how my brain processes information and didn't feel complicated at all which I know plenty of my friends would complain about if they would ever even pick up a book.

This is an amazing study in sociopsychology, and I will carry it with me for the rest of my life. I'm also grateful I read it while single; I'm pretty sure my analyses of this experiment would make any man run for the hills. Oct 23, Hi rated it really liked it. Part social experiment, part design project, the pair documented each day on their website, Forty Days of Dating, as they navigated the 'friend zone' while exploring their habits and relationship fears. After sharing their first kiss on day 18, the pair found it difficult to keep up appearances. The other rules included seeing each other every day, going on three dates and having one weekend trip together.
